The fine folks over at BlackBook have done us the favor of investigating the history of the sex doll, moving from Avid’s ivory sex toy in the year 8 to a doll released this year that features customizable personalities. What we’re curious about, though, is the future—where will sex toys go from here?

We checked in with Lupe Fuentes (pictured), the model for the best-selling Fleshlight out there—which happens to be the #1 male sex toy on the planet—who’s getting ready to one up herself by releasing “the Lupe Fuentes Forbidden Butt Fleshlight.” Having seen the glory of computerized sex thanks to her own website, Fuentes says, “Of course it will have to become interactive and link to the Internet. Maybe there can be some personal attention from the stars, like spending a virtual night with me, while you have sex with my lifelike doll and I talk to you over my webcam.”

For a more academic take on the issue, we spoke with Jessica Vaccaro, director of communications at the Museum of Sex in New York City, who says, “With rapidly evolving haptic technological advances and an increased attention in the fields of teledildonics and bluedildonics, the 21st century should be a time of great advancements for the sex doll.”

She goes on, “With the robotic companions used throughout Japan as nurses and caregivers as well as the programmable options in current sex dolls on the market, it probably won’t be too long before we see a more realistic automated human companion for sex.”

Folks on the retail end of things seem to agree. “Well, unfortunately I can't predict the future of sex dolls. Right now business is very good, and we don't foresee that changing,” says Amanda Thompson, sales and media manager for Abyss Creations, which sells the Real Doll brand sex doll. “We're always looking at ways to make our dolls better, but we don't like to mention specifics until they have been completely tested and figured out and ready to incorporate into our dolls so as not to raise false hopes… The only thing I can say with certainty is that the next doll in our line of licensed porn star dolls will be Kaylani Lei.  We plan to release the rest of the Wicked Pictures contract stars throughout this year (Stormy Daniels and Kirsten Price). The Wicked dolls have some new upgrades in them—a deeper oral cavity and an ultra-realistic spine that moves, bends, and twists much like a real person's does.”

And those aren’t the only things to keep waiting for. Our pal Lupe also has some new products in the works. “I have actually been approached to make a life size doll of me! Being only 4-foot-9 and 77 lbs, I’m the perfect girl for this,” she says. “It would be amazing if it were electric and it was hot like my body. Also, they would have to get some really exotic material, because my skin is so soft. Lastly, I would like it to smell like my favorite perfume and have really soft and natural long hair like mine. It would be amazing if the harder you fucked it, the hotter and tighter it got. You have to give people incentive to work hard!”
