Well, ladies and gents, the Emmy noms are out, and like years past, there are a lot of nominated-solely-‘cause-they’re-popular productions.
Every theater nerd’s favorite high school musical comedy, Glee, got 19 nods, including best comedy series, which pits it (and other first-time nominees Nurse Jackie and Modern Family) against last year’s victor, 30 Rock. Meanwhile, vampires continue their takeover of pop culture (next stop: the free world!), as True Blood was one of six in the best drama category. (The others are Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Good Wife, Mad Men and, somehow, Lost.)
Other highlights include Al Pacino’s lead actor in a miniseries for You Don’t Know Jack, best miniseries nominee The Pacific and a shit ton of nods for Mad Men and Saturday Night Live. For a complete list of Emmy nominations, check out the Emmy website.
