Hey nerd. Yeah, I’m talking to you. Did you know that this Saturday is the first annual International Read Comics in Public Day—or were you too busy playing World of Warcraft?

Our friends at indie comics blog The Daily Cross Hatch are sponsoring the holiday (hey, even Grandparents Day had to start somewhere) by helping to organize meet-ups across the world Aug. 28 (also, incidentally, Jack Kirby’s birthday). The site’s editor—and NY Press contributor—Brian Heater is hosting the NYC city meet-up in Union Square at 1.

Manhattan comics store Forbidden Planet will be on-hand, passing out free comics to a select number or participants. There’s also apparently a secret code for a sizable discount—more info on the RCiPD site.
