World's Strongest Vagina Crowned

Henry Melcher -

Billy Elliot just wanted to dance. Rudy dreamed of playing college football. Jess Bhamra worked night and day to “Bend it Like Beckham” and Tatiata Kozhevnikova wanted to have the world’s strongest vagina.

Ab Fab: NBC Showcases Olympic Swimmers\' Sweet Spots

Jerry Portwood

The Olympic Games are the time to sit back, relax and admire other people's physiques. NBC seems to have finally picked up on the penchant for more exposed flesh on network television and has even devised a guessing game on its website. It sorta resembles some sort of boy-next-door gay porn site, with headless, objectified men's abs shown before exposing their identities. It's at least worth a little safe for office fun (can you guess who's tummy and nips are pictured above? hint: think gold)... (Something tells me they wouldn't dare do the same thing for some female track-and-field stars.)

Frank Gehry's Nets Arena Design is Dropped

Henry Melcher -
The New York Times is reporting that the recession has trimmed back the development of Atlantic Yards in a major way. Developers have scrapped Frank Gehry’s $1 billion design for the new Nets Stadium in favor of a $200 million cheaper design from the Kansas City based architecture firm Ellerbe Beckett. The developer of Atlantic Yards, and chief executive of Forest City, Bruce C. Ratner saying, “the current economic climate is not right for this design,” continuing, “and with Frank’s understanding, the arena is undergoing a redesign that will make it more limited in scope."

Bout Action: Gotham Girls begin roller derby season with Bronx vs. Queens bout

Linnea Covington -

The first rule in roller derby is... there are a whole lot of freakin’ rules to roller derby. For a first-timer like me, the beginning of the bout proved confusing. It was fun, but I didn’t have a clue what was going on. Lucky for me, Brooklyn Bombshell player Double Clutch (aka Pebbles Napakh) pointed me in the direction of her husband, Elliot, and he explained it to me. Here is what I learned while the championship team Queens of Pain duked it out with the taxi-themed Bronx Gridlock at Hunter College’s Sportplex this past Saturday for the opening of the Gotham Girls roller derby season.

You're The One For Me, Fatty!

Andy Seccombe -

Feeling a little rotund after the festive season?

Well there’s no better way to lose weight post-New Year’s than have some of your e-buddies help scrub that chub.

The thing is, Williamsburg's cool kids plump up too, so they have to figure out ways to get motivated: e-semble style. How about weekly weight posting? Yeah, that’ll do it! That’s the thinking at least according to a few of the big’uns nattering over on Williamsboard's "Williamsboard's Biggest Loser" thread.

England Doesn't Want to See That

Will Alden -
It's a sad day for titillating menswear, as England's Alton Towers water park has forbidden men to wear Speedos.

Michael Phelps Has Great Taste

Joseph Alexiou -

The entire universe is up in arms about Michael Phelps hitting a bong.

Now, we could go through all sorts of incredibly hypocritical bullshit about irresponsibility and the bad message it sends, like everyone else. Or, we could take a step back, actually look at the photograph, and then credit Michael Phelps' impeccable taste—in bongs.

$2,625 Tickets Still Available For Yankees Home Opener (plus a $59.70 service fee per ticket)

Adam Wisnieski -

Today the New York Yankees released single game tickets for the 2009 season at the new stadium. I live in the Bronx and I want to see the new addition to the neighborhood, so I decided to see what was available for tickets. I figured most tickets would be sold out at this point, 11 o’clock in the morning, though I decided to try anyway.

Bout Action: Manhattan Mayhem vs. Brooklyn Bombshells

Linnea Covington -
Second game of the Gotham Girls 2009 roller derby season took place last Saturday between the Manhattan Mayhem and the Brooklyn Bombshells.  Of course, I felt it my duty to root for Brooklyn, my home of seven years.  Unfortunately, despite wiggling my nose and crossing my fingers, Manhattan beat them 121 to 93.

Bout Action: Queens of Pain vs. Manhattan Mayhem

Linnea Covington -

In a historical game, the Manhattan Mayhem beat the Queens of Pain for the first time in last Saturday’s bout.  It looks like it might be Manhattan’s year for roller derby.  Not only did they win last month’s game against the Brooklyn Bombshells, but they have a kinetic flow in their teamwork, which clearly shows when they play.
