Naked Lunch (or Breakfast)

Mike Spence -

So a guy wakes up in the morning, gets out of bed, and maybe brushes his teeth before going downstairs to make himself a cup of coffee. Sounds like a regular, uneventful morning—except for the fact that this guy happens to do his morning routine naked. Whatever, what you do in your own home is your own business, right? Apparently not in Springfield, VA, where the man in question was arrested because someone happened to see him through his window.

Lock n Load: BB Gun Shots in Alphabet City

Editors -
Showtime will premiere a new docu-comedy TV series that shows what really goes on in a gun shop located in Denver, Colorado, later in October. Lock 'n Load may appear to be something that should only appeal to gun fetishists and gun haters, but we are always reminded of the gun idiots of all stripes that surround us. There's currently a BB gun "sniper" shooting at innocents in Alphabet City. Nothing like the all-too-real gun violence that occurred last month on Avenue A, but also something people should be alarmed about. Is this just some kid's idea of a bad joke? Or are these warning shots of someone who needs to feel like he has a little power over his mad, mad world?

Editors -

The Basketball Diaries author and rather talented singer Jim Carroll died on Friday. He once sang a great song about just this type of occurrence. Check it out.

Plane Crashes Outside JC Penney. Let the Conspiracy Theories Begin!

Henry Melcher -

A flight instructor and his student must really love the sweet deals at JC Penney, because they decided to crash their plane into one of the retail store’s parking lots. Gothamist reports that a single-engine plane that left from Essex County Airport crashed within 100 yards of a JC Penney in the Rockaway Townsquare Mall. Both people in the plane walked away from the crash relatively unharmed. Apparently there were problems with the plane’s engine, but then again the store does boast “The Lowest Prices for Back to School” so obviously there was some incentive.

Mayor of Rotterdam Takes 'Footloose' Approach, Bans Dancing

Jordan Galloway -

Like everything else from the '80s which has suddenly come back in vogue, the struggle for teenagers who just want to dance best epitomized by a gyrating Kevin Bacon circa 1984 in "Footloose" has found a resurgance, at least in one town.

Late Great Wall

Will Alden -
Neighbors around NYU have discovered that the university surreptitiously demolished part of a wall of the historic Provincetown Playhouse, which it was attempting to preserve while building a new structure around it. The project supervisors Andrew Berman, executive director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, and Scott Stringer, Manhattan Borough President, are irate.

Those Magic Changes. Olivia Newton-John's Lover Returns from the Dead

Henry Melcher -
It was more than summer loving when Olivia Newton-John fell for the oh so dreamy and financially-troubled cameraman Patrick McDermott. Nine years after the two began seeing each other, though, tragedy struck. McDermott went missing after a 2005 fishing trip. His wallet and keys were left on the boat, but Newton-John’s hubby was gone. Some were immediately skeptical of his disappearance and assumed he may have faked his death to escape his massive debt.

Either way, many Grease fans were not surprised by this because this exact scenario plays out in the song “Summer Nights”. “She swam by me, she got a cramp/ He went by me, got my suit damp/I saved her life, she nearly drowned/He showed off, splashing around/Summer sun, something's begun, But uh-oh… where the hell is Patrick?/ Was he trying to escape his massive debt?”.

After the disappearance Newton-John married businessman John Easterling, but now McDermott has resurfaced! He’s alive!!!! McDermott is reportedly living under his birth name, Patrick McKim, in the Mexican village of Sayulita and claims his innocence.

Newton-John seems to be madly in love with her new husband and it does not seem likely that she will leave him for McKim. This is a stark contrast to her character Sandy’s previous words: “Hello, I'm just a fool who's willing to sit around and wait for you/But baby can't you see, there's nothin' else for me to do I'm hopelessly devoted to you.” Not anymore McKim. You can't just pull shit like this and think it's all going to be cool.
