Curve Magazine calls Karen Williams "a laugh riot", and for one night only, she is performing for the Astraea Foundation, the world´s only foundation that solely funds LGBTI organizations and individuals in the U.S. and internationally.
Karen Williams is not only a hilarious comedian, but also an author who is on a comedy tour to promote her book "Healing with Humor %u2013 Freedom From Fear". She has performed in a comedy special on LOGO TV called I Need a Snack, and stars in the movie Laughing Matters, which highlights Karen´s comedy as well as her social activism. Karen Williams is using her celebrity status to raise awareness and to work for social justice using humor and healing!
When not using her humor to raise awareness and work for social justice, Karen writes for places as diverse as the New York variety show "In The Life," and the books "Joke Stew"; Revolutionary Laughter"; "Out in All Directions"; and "Out, Loud & Laughing". Barnard College hosts an evening with women poets Suzanne Gardinier, Matthea Harvey, and Katy Lederer. Gardinier is the author of four poetry books including The New World and Dialogue with the Archipelago. A National Book Critics Circle Award finalist and a professor at Sarah Lawrence College, Harvey is author of three poetry books titled Modern Life, Sad Little Breathing Machine, and Pity the Bathtub Its Forced Embrace of the Human Form. Lederer was formerly the coordinator of Barnard´s New Women Poets program and has written two books of poetry, Winter Sex and The Heaven-Sent Leaf, as well as a memoir, Poker Face: A Girlhood Among Gamblers, which was named one of the best nonfiction books of the year by Publishers Weekly. As one of Hollywood´s most recognizable faces, Larry Miller has appeared in over 50 films and numerous television shows. But New Yorkers can see him perform live at Comix where he´ll headline five shows from November 12th through 14th.
Miller began his career with a memorable cameo as the brown-nosing store manager in Pretty Woman, and has since gone on to delight audiences in some of the most unforgettable roles in such films as Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, and The Princess Diaries I & II. His other credits include Jerry Seinfeld´s Bee Movie, Keeping Up with the Steins, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Aristocrats, the documentary featuring 100 of the world´s most well-known comedians telling the dirtiest joke ever heard. You can currently see him playing the over-protective father in the ABC Family television series 10 Things I Hate About You. His other TV credits include Medium, Desperate Housewives, and Boston Legal.
He also wrote the best-selling book "Spoiled Rotten America", and is a contributing humorist to The Huffington Post and Weekly Standard. After a decade long hiatus, Miller returned to stand-up and is currently on tour throughout the country.
