Barnard College hosts an evening with women poets Suzanne Gardinier, Matthea Harvey, and Katy Lederer. Gardinier is the author of four poetry books including The New World and Dialogue with the Archipelago. A National Book Critics Circle Award finalist and a professor at Sarah Lawrence College, Harvey is author of three poetry books titled Modern Life, Sad Little Breathing Machine, and Pity the Bathtub Its Forced Embrace of the Human Form. Lederer was formerly the coordinator of Barnard´s New Women Poets program and has written two books of poetry, Winter Sex and The Heaven-Sent Leaf, as well as a memoir, Poker Face: A Girlhood Among Gamblers, which was named one of the best nonfiction books of the year by Publishers Weekly. As part of the Barnard Center for Research on Women´s lunchtime lecture series, Jacqueline Olvera, term assistant professor at Barnard, examines how migrants, who are socially invisible yet physically present, negotiate the illegality in their everyday lives. Olvera garnered the Russel Sage Foundation Award for her studies dealing with "Ethnic Identity Formation and Social Relations between Newly Arriving Mexican Migrants and Puerto Rican Residents in New Haven, Connecticut."
