Join us for a special keynote lecture by MacArthur Fellow and noted environmentalist Majora Carter for the 3rd Annual Hunter College Schools of the Health Professions and School of Nursing Student-Faculty Research Conference. About the Keynote: Majora Carter’s passionate and persistent work in the revitalization of park space and open waterfront areas in the south Bronx is something to behold. Called “one of the city’s best known advocates for environmental justice” by the New York Times, Majora Carter is a visionary voice in city planning who views urban renewal through an environmental lens. The South Bronx native draws a direct connection between ecological, economic and social degradation. Hence her motto: "Green the ghetto!" Her work has garnered numerous awards and accolades, including a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship. She was named one of Essence Magazine’s “25 Most Influential African-Americans” in 2007, one of the NY Post’s “50 Most Influential Women in NYC” for the past two years, and "NYC's most influential environmentalist" by the BBC World Service. Majora is president of the Majora Carter Group, LLC, and host of a special national public radio series called “The Promised Land”.
