Charging for Plastic

Due to the frequency and abundance with which Fairway dispenses their plastic bags, the store seems not to have received the memo on the merits of environmentally responsible stewardship. Whenever I do a moderate food shopping at the East 86th Street location, I reject the offer of using two plastic bags at checkout, when one bag almost always suffices. Fairway might be better served by taking advice from The Whole Foods play book whereby every time the customer brings their own bag, ten cents is deducted from the bill. It's a "win-win" when the customer does its part to help save both the environment and their own money, instead of continuing to contribute needlessly to the waste and pollution clogging our landfills.
