COUNCIL CANDIDATES LOVE BREWER

If Mayor Michael Bloomberg's push to extend term limits for current office holders succeeds, Council Member Gale Brewer will likely run unopposed in a Democratic primary. Both current West Side council candidates registered with the city's Campaign Finance Board said they would back Brewer for a third term. "We on the West Side have an incredible Councilwoman in Gale Brewer," said potential candidate Micah Lasher, a community representative for Rep. Jerrold Nadler. "If term limits are extended and West Siders are lucky enough to re-elect her, I will not be a candidate." The other potential candidate, Helen Rosenthal, expressed similar support for Brewer. "I don't plan to challenge Gale Brewer," said Rosenthal, chair of Community Board 7. "She's just been a terrific councilwoman." Brewer, however, has not decided how she would vote for a term-limits extension bill. She added that she would prefer a voter referendum to determine the future of the current term-limit law. Though Brewer has not registered with the Campaign Finance Board or raised campaign money, a run for a third term is highly likely. "If it is a possible to run again, I would like to," Brewer said.
