A woman resisted becoming a victim of senior fraud. At 10:30 AM on Friday, August 30, an 83-year-old woman living on East 82nd Street received a phone call from an unknown man saying it was her grandson Griffin and that he needed her to wire $1,500 to get him out of trouble with the law. Upon further investigation, the woman determined that the caller was not her grandson. The caller had requested her to send money to a person named Sonia P. Maria living in Mexico City, Mexico. In the course of the scam, the woman told police she had also spoken to another man claiming to be "Officer Dantel" from the Montauk police.
