Police arrested a man last week in Elmira, NY in connection with a series of threatening phone calls made to Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney's district office several weeks ago. The threats were made in relation to Maloney's proposed gun control legislation.

Upon learning of the arrest, Maloney released a statement thanking law enforcement and praising their efforts in locating the suspect.

"For me, one of the most deeply disturbing aspects of this episode has been the fact that this individual threatened my life over my support for gun control," said Maloney.

The phone threats that were made on Maloney's life were made in response to a bill she introduced to help curb gun violence. The Firearm Risk Protection Act" (H.R. 1369) would have required gun owners to maintain liability insurance, similar to that required of car owners.
