A new NYPD database pinpoints felony crimes in the neighborhood -- and Broadway stands out

Want to know where the crime is on the west side?

The NYPD has released its first interactive map of felony crimes in the city, showing in detail where murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft have occurred from Jan. 1, 2012 through October of this year.

Residents can enter their address into the NYPD's map -- available at maps.nyc.gov/crime -- to see which crimes have occurred in and around their neighborhood.

What they'll find on the west side is that crime follows Broadway, from Columbus Circle all the way north. According to the data, crime tends to cluster around the avenue, with particular concentrations around major cross streets like 72nd, 86th and 96th streets.

Elsewhere in the neighborhood, the West Side Spirit analyzed which areas on the west side experienced a high rate of crime, relative to the surrounding area.
