Double Dose

. . . . . . .
Gotham Comedy Club is the place to be when master storyteller Dana Gould and social satirist (turned presidential hopeful) Doug Stanhope make rare NYC appearances. “I get in town on the seventh, and if I haven't ‘made it’ by the eighth, I’m outta here,” says Gould, who just finished a seven-year run as a writer and producer on “The Simpsons.”

Stanhope will be filming a Showtime special, “I don’t plan on using the special to overtly push the ’08 run, although I’m sure large parts of the material will relate directly or indirectly to Libertarian viewpoints.” Stanhope also recently released a book on baiting, the act of pretending to be an underage girl with the intention to chat with a pedophile. “Pedophiles are mentally ill people. I know you hate to hear that, but we didn’t bait ’em to benefit society like ‘Perverted Justice’ pretends to do. From what I understand, ‘Perverted Justice’ tried to do what Baiting.org did but failed at being funny, so they then pretended to be vigilante watchdogs. We did it because it was funny.”

Gould is preparing for a CD recording and will be hitting major cities throughout the year, although he’ll be avoiding the Midwest: “Did you know that Wyoming gets a huge chunk of Homeland Security money? Apparently, there’s this big jihad on caribou that nobody talks about.”

Gould March 8; Stanhope March 12, Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd St. (betw. 7th & 8th Aves.), 212-367-9000; 8 & 10, $10 + 2 drink min.
