This fall, NBC stations will replace traditional 5 p.m. newscasts with a daily lifestyle show, reports The Observer.

Discussions of the change started last month, but today’s official announcement from NBC says that the scheduled September 14 switchover will be a “fresh alternative” to current news. Called LX New York, and from the folks who brought us taxi television programming, the show will discuss local news and pop culture in terms of fashion, arts and travel. Current anchors Sue Simmons and David Ushery will be replaced by a yet unknown cast.

In addition, to attract audiences to the dwindling medium of television NBC has promised “celebrity guests, in-studio experts, cooking segments,” and of course, “irreverent fun."

As Simmons herself might ask, what the fuck are you doing?

Your headline is ridiculous and misleading. Sue Simmons has NOT been dropped by WNBC. Sue will continue to anchor the 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts at WNBC along with her partner of almost 30 years, Chuck Scarborogh. Sue Simmons is the premier female local news anchor in the United States. She created the standard by which all female local news anchors have been judged since the beginning of her remarkable career almost 35 years ago. Sue Simmons is a news legend in New York and one of the most beloved on-the-air personalities in the history of New York television. WNBC management may be making changes to their programming at 5:00 p.m., but be rest assured that Sue Simmons and Chuck Scarborough will remain at their anchor desks at WNBC until they decide to retire. These two spectacular news icons have been the face of WNBC for almost 3 decades and have earned the respect and admiration of millions of viewers in tri-state area. The news industry may be changing, and not necessarily for the best, but Sue Simmons and Chuck Scarborough remain as the two most talented and reliable news anchors in the largest news market in America. They have both paid their dues to the broadcast industry years ago and will most certainly be allowed to step down gracefully at a point in their career that they see fit. So please stop these ridiculous and fabricated headlines! When you report on Sue Simmons and Chuck Scarborough, get your facts straight...you are talking about two legends in the broadcast industry...not a novice out of the American School of Broadcasting!
