Even Construction A Bit Slow in Williamsburg

In Section: NY comPRESSed » Posted In: Real Estate, Brooklyn Posted By: Henry Melcher
- Williamsburg is living up to its slacker reputation by taking its sweet-ass time with construction projects. Residents of the Brooklyn neighborhood  like to relax and not worry about what other people think about them, but this is getting out of hand. The Post is reporting that Williamsburg now has 18 vacant construction lots—more than in the entire borough of the Bronx.

This is yet another sign of a bad housing market, but is especially surprising as Williamsburg had a booming market a few years ago. Now these lots are being filled with homeless squatters and are attracting crime say those living in the neighborhood. To combat this problem, The Department of Buildings has created the stalled-sites unit, a group of five people, who will monitor these delayed construction sites and make sure they are safe. Previously a weekend visit from mom and dad seemed to clean up the neighborhood's ailments, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
