A 17-year-old boy was arrested after robbing a jewelry store on Amsterdam Avenue at gunpoint. At 2:30 PM on Monday, August 19, the boy entered the store and asked the clerk, a 68-year-old woman, to open a locked jewelry case to show him some rings. When the clerk turned back to the boy with the rings, he had a dull gray handgun pointed at her face. The clerk asked the boy, "What do you want?" The boy answered, "I want the diamonds." The boy told the clerk to lie down on the floor, then fled the store with twenty items of jewelry. Two other people working in the basement of the store came upstairs after hearing the clerk drop to the floor, and the clerk told them she had just been robbed. They left the store to chase after the young thief. Video is available of the incident. Police searched the area for the robber, but were unable to locate him. They did, however, find the items he had stolen scattered in multiple locations around the 79th Street and Riverside Drive area. The boy was later arrested on August 19 and charged with robbery.
