School Heist

Laptops and tablets were removed from a public school on West 61st Street. At 2 PM on Wednesday, August 21, a male technology specialist locked the computers in classrooms before he left. When he returned the following Monday, the classrooms were still locked, but he found signs of forced entry to the locked carts where the computers had been stored. The school's principal, a 54-year-old woman, stated that only the tech specialist and a custodial engineer had keys to those classrooms. No video was available and no tracking software was enabled on the computers. The stolen equipment comprised fourteen Apple MacBooks valued at $14,000, and seventy-six Apple iPads worth $38,000, making a total haul of $52,000.
