Sidewalk Collapses in Midtown, Injuring Two

    A [sidewalk collapsed at a construction site on 36th Street] this afternoon, leaving a father and son construction team in a hole that a Fire Department spokesman said could be up to 10-feet deep. They were rescued and hospitalized. The two men were using a jack hammer below the sidewalk and were hit with falling debris.

    This came just one day after a City Councilperson and Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr., [called for an infrastructure study] that Mayor Bloomberg turned down. A spokesperson for the Mayor said that Plan 2030, Mayor Bloomberg’s comprehensive plan for future growth adequately addresses the condition of the city’s infrastructure.
