STUDIO NAMED FOR BREWER

    the young women's christian association (ywca) and independence high school dedicated the school's recording studio to city council member gale brewer in honor of her support in building the new studio. the gale brewer studio showcase was the result of capital funding brewer allocated, which has helped buy state-of-the-art equipment for students interested in audio engineering careers. the ywca recently brought its after-school programs to independence high school, located at 850 tenth avenue between west 54th street and west 55th street. at the march 26 ceremony brewer received a cd made by the students using the hardware and software on their six fully-functional stations. the studio serves 75-80 students a week. "i haven't seen anyone do anything so creative," brewer said about principal ron smolkin, who spearheaded the professional-grade studio.
