There are few bands spookier or more melancholy than San Diego’s The Black Heart Procession. So we’re considering it luck that the band, touring for its new album Six, will be in town this Halloween weekend, playing Maxwell’s on Saturday and Bowery Ballroom on Sunday.
Adam Rathe caught up with Black Heart’s Pall Jenkins during a break in his touring to talk about the new record, Halloween costumes and smoking pot in the van.

Back in the heady days of June, our own Will Alden loved Beck & Co.'s Record Club, which released a cover of every song on The Velvet Underground and Nico. As far as covers of entire records go, I personally prefer Pussy Galore's version of Exile on Main Street, but what the "Loser" singer was up to wasn't half bad. Now he's at it again.

Joan Rivers won't be the only one getting roasted this weekend. With the nice weather supposedly holding out for the next two days, barbecues, hibachis and George Foreman grills will be popping up all over town for barbecues. But while you're searing a Boca burger or even seasoning a fine mix of ground meats, you probably won't be hacking up a pig in Bushwick. WNYC has video of last week's Urban Pig Roast at 3rd Ward in Bushwick, and it's some serious shit. Next time someone acts like a hero for managing to get a pile of Ball Parks to plump, it will be even less impressive than it was before—and that's saying something. See the video after the jump.
