Staff -
City Hall newsaper is reporting that, despite midterm elections this week that saw a wave of Republican victories around the state and a series of setbacks for gay marriage around the country, supporters of same-sex marriage say they are closer than ever to achieving passage. Little Shop of Horrors: Roger Corman at Anthology

Staff -

Roger Corman’s funny, fucked-up horror film was made years later into a Steve Martin-Rick Moranis vehicle. This earlier version, though, shot basically for no money in 1960, starred Jack Nicholson, in whose performance one can see shades of the future Shining. Forego the songs for the funnier, scarier original tonight at Anthology Film Archives (9:30, $9).

Massive Subway Delays This Weekend: Partiers Revolt!

Staff -

After a night at the bars, we all love tipsily swaying from a subway pole. To make this quintessential New York experience more like purgatory, the MTA will give us the party favor it does best: massive delays. When 18 of its 20 lines skip stops this weekend, expect revelers to riot and hell’s after-party to fire up just beneath your feet.

'Chelsea on the Rocks' Opens Today

Staff -
Always interesting film director Abel Ferrara's documentary about the Chelsea Hotel, Chelsea on the Rocks, opens today at the Chelsea Clearview. It'll be one of those weird meta moments when you're sitting in a movie theater, looking at famous people traipsing around the historic building that's located just a few hundred feet away. And with the weird recreations of maybe-it-happened-this-way moments, Ferrara will re-tell the history in his own singular style. If you want to take a strange tour of the hotel, visit the movie's website, which allows you to enter, take the elevator or stairs, and click on rooms. For a bit of reference, here's an interview we conducted with Ferrara last year when his controversial Mary finally screened at Anthology Film Archives.
