Violent Assault at Duane Reade

a 24-year-old man was arrested after trying to swipe merchandise from a duane reade and attacking a security guard. police said that april 16, mark krowiak tried to steal $57 worth of cosmetics and cough medicine from the duane reade at 1889 broadway and west 63rd street. the store detective stopped krowiak, but he took out a glass bottle and smashed it over the 33-year-old detective's head. the thief continued to fight with the store detective and another employee, police said. krowiak was arrested and charged with robbery.
