Who Will Be the Next Karaoke Idol?

Staff Report Ten contestants vied for the coveted "Karaoke Idol" title on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Lips, the dinner club located at 227 E. 56th St. Hosted by Our Town, Lips and Absolut Vodka, a cast of colorful karaoke singers took to the stage to see if they had the skills to make it to the finals. Host BlackieO brought the house down with her uproarious humor, and the club crackled with energy as contestants sang everything from John Legend to Weird Al Yankovic's "Eat it." The three crooners to make it to the next round are Claudio "Maddox" Lake, Mike Vocalz and Maggie De Silva. Sitting at the judges' table were Lee Evans, an award-winning producer; Carol Henning, a performer from Tandava Arts; and Paula Liscio, an opera singer and vocal coach. The next round of "Karaoke Idol" will take place on the evening of Oct. 23, when three more finalists will be chosen to go to the finals on Nov. 13. The grand prize is a $1,000 and the chance to record a professional CD, courtesy of Jambox Studios. The runner-up will receive a $500 cash prize and studio time. All other finalist will be given gift cards. In addition, finalists will get complimentary hairstyle makeovers from Dramatics NYC. Singers should rehearse their musical numbers thoroughly, have great stage presence and know how to perform onstage. "Karaoke Idol' is open to all amateurs.
