Another NY Hero

So much for the selfish, belligerent New Yorker; it seems we have an epidemic of super heroes. [An off-duty EMT saved a woman from committing suicide yesterday] when she attempted to throw herself in front of a Brooklyn subway train. Just after work, Daniel Fitzpatrick, 38, was waiting at the Flushing Ave. J train station when a civilian approached him to point out a woman’s dangerous behavior. She had climbed down onto an utility platform near the tracks. Fitzpatrick, seeing a train approaching, jumped down after her. The woman struggled against him but another civilian grabbed hold to Fitzpatrick’s hand, pulling him forward enough so that his head wasn’t in the path of the oncoming train. The woman continued to resist Fitzpatrick even after the train had passed, trying to touch the electrified rail. Police then arrived and took the unidentified woman to Bellevue Hospital, while Fitzpatrick went home to Long Island. We wonder why Fitzpatrick didn't warrant front page news as [Wesley Autrey](http://www.nypost.com/seven/01062007/news/regionalnews/hills_bid_to_hail_rail_superman_regionalnews_.htm) did a few weeks ago, and how long it will take for the media to hail him as a superhero. Oh wait, I think we just did.
