Costco To Accept Members-Only Food Stamps?

It’s been about two weeks since Queens City Councilman Eric [Gioia fell of the food stamp wagon], and he’s now [calling on Costco](http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=1&aid=70167)—ye olde purveyor of ginormous eats—to join the Federal Food Stamp Program. Ever the shrewd politician, Gioia points out that not only is accepting food stamps the moral thing to do, but also beneficial to the big box store’s revenue. Of course, such a pursuit is in addition to Gioia’s endeavors to [add billions of dollars](http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/05/29/2007-05-29_pol_to_retailer_food_stamps_will_nourish.html) to the overall food stamp program. Healthy and discounted? Now there's something to be proud of.
