Diaz: I'm In For Bronx Beep

Though it's likely not a surprise, Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr. told me yesterday that he has created his campaign committee, "Diaz 2009," and will be exploring a run for Bronx borough president in 2009.

"I have a lot of listening to do, and a lot of people to hear from," said Diaz.

"I think my record in the State Assembly during the last 11 years will speak to

    voters across The Bronx."

Diaz noted that this is not his official announcement, but that he will spend the next few months criss-crossing the borough to hear what people think about his chances.

"I have a really strong belief that I need to talk to other folks, to hear what

they have to say," said Diaz, who has been a fixture at events outside of his Hunt's Point/Soundview district over the past year, pleading his case.

"This is not a self-proclaimed candidacy.

I've been getting a lot of good feedback."

Diaz added that after more than a decade in the Assembly it might be time to move to an executive position.

"I think I can do more," he added.
