Frank-ly, NJ's Offseason Unimpressive
Apparently, mediocrity is good enough for the New Jersey Nets. The Nets signed Lawrence Frankthe National Basketball Leagues youngest head coach at 36 years oldto a [multiyear contract extension] yesterday, despite managing just a 41-41 record in a weak conference last season while armed with three superstars. Frank has led New Jersey to the playoffs in all four of his seasons at the helm, but has never gotten the team past the second round of the playoffs. This year, they [fell to Cleveland](http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=270518017) in six games in the postseasons second round.
Yet despite their minimal success, New Jersey seems reluctant to make any drastic changes this offseason. On July 1, the team signed the much-talented, forever-a-loser Vince Carter to a four-year, [$61-million extension]. Now, with Franks new contract, the organization seems content to preserve the status quo and hover below Detroit, Cleveland, Miami and Chicago as just a second-tier team in the Eastern Conference.
