    The MTA has just launched a new service for commuters, allowing them to access elevator and escalator outage information on its [website]. The info will be updated three times daily.

    "This equipment is vital to accessible transit for disabled riders," said MTA NYC Transit President Howard H. Roberts Jr., who noted that he has been touring subway stations with disabled riders recently. "These tours have reinforced my commitment to ensure that our elevators in particular are not only operating but properly maintained so full access is a regular occurrence."

    The MTA currently operates 158 total elevators in the City's subway system, 138 of which meet the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
