Abraham Lincoln is almost 200 years old, so the U.S. government has decided to give him a little makeover. On the new five-dollar bills, which will start being printed next week, Honest [Abe will be spruced up ]with splashes of purple and gray to go along with his normal green color.

The changes are part of an [ongoing redesign project] by the Treasury Department that has already included the $50, $20 and $10 bills. The government believes the extra color will liven up the old green design and thwart counterfeit attempts. Other new security features include changing the bill’s watermark and altering the location of the security thread embedded in the paper. Of course, if anyone deserves a touch-up, it’s Abe. After all, the man did free the slaves and take a bullet to the brain.
