I Don’t Want My MTV

If you thought ["Laguna Beach"] was steamy, wait until you see what MTV can do to Brooklyn. It seems the poor, little cable network is really dredging the bottom of the reality TV show barrel with this one. Next up, they will film [a pilot aptly called "Brooklyn," which explores the lives of average high school students](http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/495841p-417747c.html) in the borough. Translation: we’re finally and inexplicably bored of exploiting the lives of spoiled West Coast rich kids but Brooklyn, Brooklyn is such an untapped resource. Who knows what treasures we will find there? They could be rich, they could be poor and, best of all, they might, they just might, not all be white! In fact, the blurb on the website for Brooklyn Technical High School in Fort Greene, where auditions will be held, describes the neighborhood as “a cross between Harlem in its heyday and Paris.” Nice. The Daily News explains, “City Education Department officials said the project is the brainchild of a partner of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. City officials said there would be no filming at Brooklyn Tech.” And let’s not forget the fact that “Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz was thrilled by MTV's interest, noting that the borough is already home to [Brokeback Mountain](http://www.brokebackmountain.com/) stars Heath Ledger and actress Michelle Williams.” Perhaps our fair city will birth the next [Jacinda Barret](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacinda_Barrett).(http://flickr.com/photos/ikkoskinen/)
