I'm Lovin' It, Trans Fat That Is
The Washington Post has a very interesting article today about how [New York Citys trans fat ban will actually impede all ][those New Years resolutions to get fit]. Paul Howard first asserts that the science behind the trans fat prohibition is dubious. Take that Bloomie! Hell be eating his words while we eat a nice big hunk o illegal trans fat. The article then makes the argument that the ban gives diners the illusion that what is available to them must be healthy. Thats seems pretty dubious to me, but I guess people have made quantum leaps of logic before. The best part is the line that refers to the citys health-obsessed media and cultural intelligentsia, and the following passage: These are the nation's most health obsessed consumers, who sip red wine, gravitate to yoga studios, and peer obsessively at the fine print on food labels. These voters view "corporate" food as an affront to nature, and what is worse, déclassé. Wow. Then it goes on to list all the other unhealthy habits New Yorkers have (like driving cars). Ultimately, the article advocates Walmart and Costco and the like instead of independent bodegas. Who knows? If Paul Howard gets his way, maybe that deep fried milkshake you're furiously sucking down for fear it'll be your last one just might not be.(http://flickr.com/photos/fuzzy/)
