Meet The Taxi Of Tomorrow

| 11 Nov 2014 | 01:28

Amongst other impressive cars of tomorrow, some [innovative new yellow taxis] are being exhibited at the [New York International Auto Show](http://www.autoshowny.com/), which [opened today at the Javits Convention Center](http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=1&aid=68348). Some can travel up to 200 mph and some are powered by clean burning compressed natural gas or pure hydrogen. But by far the coolest out of the eight futuristic cab designs is the one featuring lights under the rear doors, which illuminate a passengers’ exit so as to assist in the traditional avoid-the-puddle-and-the-poop dance. Unfortunately, only one new model will actually be put into production.

As creative as they are, all design entries had to conform to certain criteria, like built-in child seats (not sure what adults will do), sunroofs (’cause that’s indispensable) and easy access for the elderly and disabled (to be nice). In addition, they had to be green—not in color, but in terms of running on alternative fuel and being constructed out of environmentally friendly materials (as the few hybrids being used now are [pretty pricey]).

The name of the exciting new winner is [the Standard Taxi] (eh, what are you gonna do?). It  costs only $25,000, as the typical Ford Crown Victoria cabs do, but stands six feet tall and includes a commercial-grade trucker’s seat to provide maximum comfort for the driver’s ass. Look for it on a street near you next year.
