Tourist Stashes Gun in Downtown Hotel

An out-of-state tourist caused a strange panic and police investigation when he purposefully left a loaded handgun in the cushions of a chair in a downtown hotel lobby. On Sunday around 2 p.m., the man walked into the Club Quarters Hotel at 144 Washington Street and hid the gun - or so he thought. Another person found it later and turned it over to hotel security, and their security footage captured the man's image. The Post reported that police later discovered the man's motive - he wanted to visit the 9/11 Memorial and had asked if he was allowed to bring his .22 caliber gun. He was of course told by the security at the Memorial that he could not, and so he apparently thought the next best option was to stash the weapon and then come back for it later.
