Avella: Equal Display Rights For Jesus

| 11 Nov 2014 | 01:37

Yesterday, Queens City Councilman Tony Avella (pictured) called on the Department of Education to allow public schools to display a nativity scene during the holiday season.

Avella noted that current DOE  policy allows for the display of a Jewish Menorah and an Islamic Star and Crescent during the winter holiday season so long as they are displayed together.

“My resolution is purely about inclusion,” stated Avella.  “The menorah and star and crescent are religious symbols.  By adding a nativity scene/crèche to the holiday display, Christianity will receive equal representation with other religious faiths during the holiday season.”

Avella was joined by representatives of the Catholic League, Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Thomas More Law Center. More [here].
