A man assaulted a 52-year-old woman with an umbrella after accusing her of denting his car. At 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, the woman and the man were having a verbal dispute at the northeast corner of Water Street and Broad Street. The man accused the woman of denting his car, and as she walked away, he picked up an umbrella off the street and struck her in the face, causing a laceration to her left cheek. He called 911 to report an incident of criminal mischief to his vehicle but was gone when the police officer arrived and did not return phone calls. The police searched the area for him and the umbrella without success. The man had fled in an unknown tan vehicle with New York plates.
