Canal Street Boogie-Woogie

On the sixth floor of an abandoned-looking office building on Canal street lies a diamond in the rough. A short elevator ride takes you to an open and airy space shared by 6 Decade Books and Boo-Hooray. This Saturday the joint space will play host to Dirk Westphal's Canal Street Boogie-Woogie exhibition. Westphal's exhibition is a recreation of Piet Mondrian's iconic geometric works, with a twist. Canal Street Boogie-Woogie is a series of Mondrians painted in nail polish. The works are a playful juxtaposition of the high and the low brow that is oh-so appropriate for Canal Street, where pleather Louis Vuittons are a dime a dozen. On Saturday, Dec. 10 Westphal will kick off the festivities at the space with a book-signing from 6-8 p.m.

Following this exhibition 6 Decade Books and Boo-Hooray will continue to host a revolving display of art exhibitions, books and ephemera all in the holiday spirit. Drop by 625 Canal St. #601 for the inaugural holiday shop between Dec. 10 and 23. Don't let the building's appearance fool you, it is well worth the trip.
