Caught Red-Handed

a man was arrested feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m. after he was spotted breaking into a seventh-floor apartment through the window. jeffrey ziernicki, 35, cut both his hands on the broken glass trying to enter the apartment, on west 77th street and columbus avenue. cops said that two witnesses saw ziernicki from their apartment windows as he was trying to enter the room of a woman, who was on vacation. police apprehended ziernicki on the fire escape and charged him with burglary.
