On-the-Job Victims Two employees of a French restaurant on Broadway reported that their property was stolen from the basement coat check while they were working on the night of Friday, Sept. 21. The woman told police that a white man, about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black balding hair, pale blotchy skin and glasses, took their things and left before they discovered it. Among the missing items were two cellphones, one a $400 iPhone, a $200 Michael Kors wallet, a MetroCard and various credit cards and gift cards. Everything But the Baby A 33-year-old woman was standing outside her apartment building on Riverside Boulevard last Saturday at 2 p.m., having a chat with her neighbor. She had her baby carriage nearby, and when she checked on it about 10 minutes later, all the contents (though luckily not a baby) had been taken. The stolen items included $350 Chanel sunglasses, a $165 children's sweater, a pricey diaper bag and other baby accessories; the total value of everything taken was $1,410. Time Theft An Upper West Side resident reported a livery cab rip-off to police that occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. The 35-year-old got into a black town car at Fifth Avenue and 38th Street and gave the driver his West 72nd Street address. Being drunk and exhausted by his own description, the victim fell asleep during the ride. When he awoke outside his apartment, he found the driver trying to snatch his $10,000 Rolex watch right off his wrist. After a struggle, the driver got away with the watch and sped off. Bike and Steal Last week, a 23-year-old man rented 10 bicycles from a shop off Central Park West. The man presented a valid New York state-issued photo ID and signed a rental agreement for four hours. When the time was up, however, the man and his borrowed bikes were nowhere to be found. Repeated attempts to reach him failed, so the shop reported the 10 Trek hybrid cycles, worth $3,100 total, stolen. Tough Love from Parents A couple living on West 78th Street reported a theft to police last Thursday. The suspect is their 23-year-old son, who they say was alone in the apartment and lifted $11,000 worth of jewelry without their knowledge or permission. The parents told cops that their son, who is not living with them, abuses drugs and alcohol, and that they will press charges against him if caught. The son allegedly stole two pairs of cufflinks, one Cartier and one 18K gold, as well as a pair of diamond hoop earrings. Stranger Savior A 16-year-old girl was walking down West 65th Street around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday when three other girls approached her from behind. One pushed her, knocking the victim to the ground and sending her cellphone clattering to the sidewalk. When she moved to grab her phone, another one of the perps snatched it up and started running. Before she could get very far, however, an unknown man was able to stop her and get the phone, returning it to the victim. The trio of thieves fled, and the victim was not injured.
