    In the wake of the recently agreed upon [civil confinement bill] that would keep sex offenders locked up long past their prison sentences are over, the city is on the hunt for more than 50 missing rapists and various other dangerous sexual deviants. The [Daily News reports](http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/502784p-424045c.html) that these fugitives said they were living in public housing complexes, the addresses of which were included on the state sex offender registry. Last month, federal authorities subsequently went to evict the ex-cons—because law prohibits Level 2 and 3 sex offenders (the meanest ones) from living in apartments maintained by the city Housing Authority. But it was then discovered that they had lied (odd, hardened bad guy types pride themselves on their moral fiber) and didn’t live where they claimed. Fifty-four of them have since been rounded up, but [the whereabouts of the last 64](http://www.newsday.com/news/local/newyork/ny-bc-ny--sexoffenders0305mar05,0,2258390.story?track=rss) are still unknown. Hopefully, we've all learned a valuable lesson about the importance of research and why not to just accept the word of a convicted sex offender.
