According to a post by the Gothamist earlier this morning, an unidentified, 53-year-old black man was struck and killed by the L Train. The incident has been confirmed by the MTA and the NYPD. The Gothamist reports that the man was hit at the Union Square station by an 8th Ave bound train, and according to a witness the train's conductor noted the man was peeing on the tracks as the subway cars came into the station. DCPI stated that the man was pronounced dead on arrival, when EMS responders arrived on the scene at around 9:30am. Police added, "There is no criminality suspected at this time and the investigation is ongoing. [Identification] is pending family notification." The incident also caused delays and by 9:50 a.m. the MTA was running only the train on one track between Bedford and 8th Ave. One of the Gothamist's tipsters gave this disconcerting account of the incident: "The L train coming into Manhattan about 9 minutes ago felt like it hit and ran over something or part derailed. They let us off one door on our car but when I looked back at the rest of train people were still on. We were in the 2nd car from the front."
