Alleged theft by bank tellerA 62-year-old man reported to police that a teller at the Chase Bank at 475 West 23rd St. stole $300 from him when he withdrew cash from the bank. The man told police that he went to the bank on the afternoon of Saturday, July 21 to withdraw $500 in singles from his bank account. He said the teller gave him the cash, which he counted at just $400. He told the teller that his withdrawal was $100 short, and that she then gave him another $100. The man told police he then gave the teller $300 in $20 bills and asked to change them for $100 bills. The victim received the cash, and the teller then asked him to sign a bank withdrawal slip for the $500 in singles. The following Monday, the victim checked his account and saw that it showed he had withdrawn $800 instead of $500. He told police the withdrawal slip had been altered to read $800 without. The victim reported the incident on October 12 at 1:34 p.m.

Man threatens passers-by with axeA 34-year-old man told police a man in a mask was threatening pedestrians, including him, with an axe at the southwest corner of Eighth Avenue and West 24th Street on Friday, Oct. 12 at 1:45 a.m. The victim told police that he was at the corner when the man in the mask started screaming at him, “Get outta here, c***blocker,” while holding an axe.

assault on 8th AvenueA 26-year-old man told police he was assaulted in front of Eighth Avenue near 16th Street in the early morning of Friday, Oct. 12. A witness told police that the victim and an assailant got into an argument, and that the latter punched the 26-year-old in the face before fleeing north with two women. The victim who had head pain couldn’t recall what happened. Police said that the two did not know each other.

Car broken into on West 22ndA man reported that his car was broken into sometime between Thursday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. and Friday, October 12 at 12:45 a.m. while it was parked in front of 443 West 22nd St. He told police that he parked the car on West 22nd Street while he was working at Chelsea Piers and when he returned about 11 hours later, he saw that the driver’s side rear window had been smashed and that a dashboard camera, a memory card, a cell phone holder, a car jack and a car jack cable were missing.
