PATCH OF PARK

Council Member Gale Brewer has dedicated many parks during her political career, and on Sept. 19, she was able to unveil a park that bore her name-sort of. That day was NYC Park(ing) Day 2008, a worldwide event where communities build temporary parks in parking spaces. On the Upper West Side, Brewer secured a spot in front of her district office, at 563 Columbus Ave. and West 87th Street. People like post office delivery woman Hazel Garrow, pictured, took a moment to rest on a lawn chair, catch some shade under a beach umbrella or play a game of croquet.
