Raising Money for Soul Food

On September 15th, SoulCycle at 45 Crosby Street hosted a "Sunday Night Soul for God's Love" event to benefit God's Love We Deliver, an organization that provides nutritious, individually-tailored meals to New Yorkers who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.

Miss USA Erin Brady and Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf joined 50 other women for a 45-minute ride that raised $8,200 for God's Love We Deliver's Expansion Campaign. The ladies danced and spun to a mix of Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, and Pink. All in attendance wore white and red glow-stick bracelets (the God's Love colors), and Wolf mouthed the words to every song.

"It was dancy, poppy and fun. Everyone was hooting and hollering and screaming," said God's Love volunteer McKenzie Mahoney, a member of the steering committee for the expansion campaign.

Beauty queens Wolf and Brady were riding for the very first time Sunday night.

"They were such good sports," Mahoney said. "They had their sashes on in the beginning, but they were off by the end of the ride.

Mahoney and fellow volunteer Nick Yarmac came up with the idea for the fundraiser while chopping onions and peeling carrots in the God's Love commissary; the conversation over cooking always lead to SoulCycle, "a mutual obsession."

God's Love needs to raise $25 million in order to meet the growing demand for their services by expanding their existing facility at 166 Avenue of the Americas.

"We just don't have the space to provide and serve 4,500 meals a day anymore-and that number is growing every week," said Mahoney.
