Small Toys Equal Big Force

In the future, the NYPD will be equipped with a slew of [high-tech security devices] virtually incomprehensible to your teeny, tiny, little brain. Picture this (if you can): backpacks designed to detect dirty bombs, “a system of stationary airborne devices, ” blimp-like aircrafts that will detect chemical, biological and radiological threats and helicopters fitted with license-plate readers. OK, that last one’s not so impressive.

One device that’s just over the horizon is an advanced radiation detector that can be carried in knapsacks, on bicycles or—dare we say it—[segways]. Kelly also mentioned creating a network of [1,000 security cameras](http://www.nypost.com/seven/06072007/news/regionalnews/nypd_mobile_radiation_detectors_on_a_roll_regionalnews_murray_weiss______and_maggie_haberman.htm) to protect lower Manhattan. Now that’s a scary picture of the future.
