TASTE OF BROOKLYN
the brooklyn flea vendors who peddle haute foodie fare, like asian-inspired hotdogs, pupusas and lobster rolls, are headed to central park this summer.
six brooklyn flea regulars will be providing food at the free central park summerstage concert series, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. the concert series will be held at rumsey playfield in central park, near east 72nd street and fifth avenue.
eric demby, co-founder of the brooklyn flea, wanted to give the tourists, outer borough visitors and residents who attend summerstage a chance to taste the food that has become a main attraction at his market.
"the food is something we thought could break off into its own," said demby, who started the flea market with brooklyn real estate blogger jonathan butler.
concertgoers will be able to scarf a personal pizza pie cooked in a wood-burning brick oven on a truck trailer (pizza moto) or a hot dog topped with japanese curry and homemade kimchi apples (asia dog).
artisan food at the brooklyn market focuses on creative flavors and local ingredients. most chefs and business owners have a deep understanding of the food and its background.
"having this presence at summerstage will introduce a lot of people [to] the brooklyn flea and introduce them to a very delicious snack or meal," demby said. "it is a good snapshot of the brooklyn food movement."
