Jenny Amlen, 50, a singer/songwriter and therapist, died of natural causes Thursday night at home. Amlen, who lived on West 69th Street, was a longtime presence in the city’s music scene; her “Stories To Tell” album, released in August, was produced by her brother David Amlen, owner of Manhattan Sound Recordings in midtown, whose clients include Beyonce, Madonna, Elton John and others. Amlen had also released “Many Hats” in 2008.

She began her career at the American Music Dramatic Academy, receiving a bachelor’s in music from SUNY College, and subsequently studied in India with famed raga masters Terry Riley and La Mont Young. She performed extensively as a solo artist and with rock bands in New York, Western Europe, Asia, Australia, Northern Africa and the Caribbean. She graduated with a master’s in social work from Fordham University in 2002 and received a certificate in psychoanalytic/psychotherapy from the Postgraduate Institute of Mental Health in 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Alan E. Walker; her brother David Amlen; and her parents, Seymour and Elinor Amlen. Public memorial plans are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to MercyForAnimals.org.
