Axed Doorman Files For Revenge

An East Side doorman accused of pocketing someone else’s fat Christmas tip was fired, subsequently racked up $20,000 in bills and has now filed a [$2 million lawsuit] against Douglas Elliman Property Management for “embarrassment, humiliation and mental agony.” Viorel Cincu, 49, had worked at the ritzy Sutton House for the past 17 years. But in 2005, the holiday season brought him a round of bad luck. Allegedly, Cincu was caught on tape [lifting $400 from an envelope](http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/05/16/2007-05-16_canned_doorman_sues_for_2m.html) left for his coworker.

Residents Raffi and Stephanie Asadorian, the ones who left the large heap of cash lying around, complained that it never reached its intended destination. Management went to the security cameras, which apparently “clearly” showed Cincu taking money out of the envelope, which had been slid between the pages of a newspaper. But Cincu claims that he wasn’t even working at the time. Nope, he was out to dinner, and the tape, which is not date- or time-coded, merely shows him handling a different envelope in a different newspaper at a different time. It seems he wasn’t very convincing as he was canned a month later.
