Bash Compactor: Gerry's Night Out

Fashion's Night Out: a heady evening of high heels, perfume and pretty girls, boys and in-betweens roaming the streets on a summer-like night. For me, Friday never starts until at least 9, so I arrived at the soiree at Bergdorf Goodman rather late. There was a line snaking around the corner, but no matter. The show in the windows was incredible, with ornate tableau vivant installations by artists Jon Kessler and Douglas Little and performances by the likes of Lala Brooks (of The Crystals), Joey Arias, The Ones and Selene Luna. Once I pushed my way inside, fashionistas roamed through the swanky store looking for freebies and booze, but all we could find was bottled water and small bags of chips. “No more entry to the third floor,” a security guard intoned ominously. So I immediately snuck up there for Patrick McMullan’s karaoke party, stopping to say hi to DJ Johnny Dynell. Nothing better than watching dressed-up wannabes mangle Volare. I just missed Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige and Sarah Jessica Parker, but fate was with me: in a mad crush of fans, Nicole Richie rubbed against my shoulder.

Even without a drop of alcohol, this was one hell of a night. The only low point was desperately trying to hail a taxi home, crippled by the pain incurred by my black patent leather high heels.
