amidst increased reports of bedbug infestations, a city council committee is slated to hold a feb. 24 hearing to discuss council member gale brewer's bills to curb the outbreak. brewer sponsored three bills that would create a bedbug task force, outline safe disposal of infested mattresses and furniture, and institute a training program for pest control professionals and building owners. action on these issues will bring new york up to date with other major cities in the country, the council member said. "it's great that we're not smoking as much," brewer said in a statement, "and great that we're not eating trans fats, but we need to focus on bedbugs in the same aggressive manner."
