IN THE NAME of "stopping crime" and of course everyone's favorite excuse, "thwarting terrorists," the MTA announced this week that along with the random police sweeps through the trains, they'd also like to install surveillance cameras in subway cars and on buses.
That should almost make the coverage complete, shouldn't it? Now along with banks, bodegas, department stores, elevators, museums, offices, schools, building entrances, stairwells, taxis, street corners, parks and bars, your morning rush hour train will be one more place where you'll be under constant electronic scrutiny.
Giving the camera the finger: Terrorist threat? And if not, when will it officially become one?
